Public Health Nursing Education & Internship Design

Date
Jan 2020 - March 2024
Role
Curriculum Developer for Community Health Programs
At Marin Center for Independent Living, I co-created and led a hands-on nursing internship called "Opportunity Village" that gave BSN nursing students real exposure to field-based public health and community care. I designed the entire program experience, from the onboarding process to the daily tools students used, to the workshops and educational sessions I led.
I developed a structured, client-centered program that focused on everything from health coaching and social services navigation to documentation and care planning. My role included mentoring over 60 student nurses from USF, UCSF, and Dominican, managing clinical cases, and delivering training on chronic disease education, trauma-informed care, and motivational interviewing.
To support the internship, I created multiple slide decks, field tools, and written guides to standardize and elevate the educational experience. These materials were used in real-time with clients, in team huddles, and as onboarding content for incoming students.
I also secured Salesforce Power of Us grant funding to launch a CRM system, enabling remote client follow-up and centralized documentation during COVID. The entire program helped bridge classroom learning and real-world public health giving students a clear understanding of what person-centered care looks like outside of the hospital.
